Product Information
The three primary types of wood used to construct Mayfield Modern products are maple, cherry and walnut. Included below are pictures of each wood type that we most often use and some examples of products with various wood combinations that may be helpful when choosing product options. Although an effort is made to adhere as much as possible to product photos, wood grains and color can vary.
Wood Types
Maple
The lightest color of wood used at Mayfield Modern, maple is a hard wood usually from the northeast part of North America. The color ranges from a very light, almost cream color, to a golden blonde. The grain is usually straight or slightly wavy and varies from piece to piece, but sometimes you will see a slight stripe or quilted pattern.
Cherry
Cherry is a pinkish brown that darkens to a beautiful medium reddish brown over time and with exposure to light. It has a nice straight grain, with occasional wavy or curly patterns.
Walnut
Walnut is a customer favorite for sure due to the gorgeous flowing grain patterns and dark color. Some people think it is stained because it's so dark but it is a naturally dark wood, we don't use stain on any of our products. We take our time searching through the wood pile to hand pick the most interesting pieces.
